Luobi Cave is an archaeological site in Hainan, significant as the earliest evidence of human activity on the island. Currently, it is not open for tours, so confirm access before planning a trip. When open, it offers a short visit with a large cave mouth and historical insight.

Current Status and Access

Luobi Cave is currently not open to visitors. Some travelers have made the trip only to find it closed, so check whether the site has reopened before you go. When it does open, it remains a worthwhile destination as Hainan's earliest known human activity site.

At the main entrance, there is a 'cave exploration' stall with confusing charges. To visit the site freely, avoid this stall and follow the regular visitor route to prevent extra fees or misleading information.

Opening Hours

Opening hours have been reported inconsistently. One source states the site is open from 9:30 to 11:00 and 15:30 to 17:00, Tuesday to Sunday, closed on Mondays (open on weekends). Another says it is open year-round from 8:00 to 18:00. Since the site is currently closed, these hours may not apply. Check locally before you travel.

Getting There

Public transport to Luobi Cave is inconvenient. After getting off, you may need to walk about 12 kilometers on a gravel road, so wear comfortable sports shoes to save energy.

From Luobi Cave (southbound) to Damao Village, take bus 37 for 5 stops and get off at Shizai Village, then transfer to bus 20 for 21 stops to Damao Village. The journey takes about 63 minutes, passes 26 stops, covers about 17.99 kilometers, and involves one transfer.

Visiting Tips

The cave mouth is about 12 meters high, 9 meters wide, and 18 meters deep, with the ceiling rising to about 20 meters inside. Notice how the space gradually opens up and becomes taller from the entrance inward.

A visit to the site takes about 1 hour.

There are no shops or food outlets at the site, so bring your own water and snacks.

The reef area near the exit is a lesser-known photo spot; at low tide, you can capture the layered texture of rocks and waves. Check local tide times in advance and go during low tide for the best effect.

The performance 'Sanya Romance' lasts about 1 hour and includes chapters such as 'Luobi Cave', 'Madam Xian', 'Maritime Silk Road', and 'Jianzhen's Eastward Voyage'. The 'Luobi Cave' chapter depicts Hainan's earliest human activity, offering a quick way to understand the island's history.
