Highlights and Culture

Tianya Haijiao is a 5A-level scenic area and a symbol of Sanya, founded in 1984. It carries the romantic 'End of the Earth' cultural theme.

Key spots include Tianya Stone and Haijiao Stone (over 300 years old), Nan Tian Yi Zhu (featured on the back of a previous banknote), and Love Square with heart-lock walls and love trees. Over 10 rock inscriptions line the coast.

The 'Tianya Sunset' is rated as one of Sanya's top ten natural wonders. Over 92% of out-of-town visitors come here.

The site is known for Qing Dynasty inscriptions: 'Tianya' by Cheng Zhe, 'Haijiao' by General Wang Yi, and 'Nan Tian Yi Zhu' on the fourth series banknote. 'Hai Pan Nan Tian' was a landmark from Kangxi-era surveys.

Other features: Sun-Moon Stones (symbolizing love), Historical Figures Sculpture Garden (Huang Daopo, Lady Xian, Jianzhen), and Imperial Edict Museum.

Best photo spots: Tianya Stone, Haijiao Stone, Nan Tian Yi Zhu (bring a banknote for a photo), leaning coconut tree, Sun-Moon Stones, Lovers' Trees, glass church, and infinity pool.

Best time: after 3 PM for softer light and sunset. Golden-hour views with the seaside wedding chapel are popular for wedding photos.

Recommended route: Gate → Seaside Promenade → Tianya Stone → Haijiao Stone → Nan Tian Yi Zhu → Tianya Culture Garden → Viewing Platform for sunset.

The area also reflects ancient exile culture; visiting with children can be an educational experience in history.

Avoiding Common Traps

At the core area, free photo spots are available, but beware of people offering to take photos or guide you for a fee; politely decline if not needed.

If you don't need a service, you can walk away; staff will not block or push sales. Look for official pickup points to enjoy ticket benefits.

At the exit, there is a 'free photo' trap: the free small photo is thumbnail-sized and blurry; a clear large photo costs extra and they may pressure you to buy. Avoid or ask for prices first.

The West Gate has fewer crowds; from there it's about 800 meters to Tianya Stone, so allow time or take the shuttle.

Photography Tips

The entrance area is crowded, making photos difficult; take photos after entering for better shots.

For the best light, visit after 3 PM to catch the sunset.
