Luhuitou Scenic Area sits on a peninsula at the southern tip of Sanya, known for its hilltop sculpture and sweeping views over the city and Sanya Bay. Entry is free, and you can walk up or take a paid shuttle. It's a popular spot for sunset and night views.
Getting There
By car, enter from the Luling intersection on Yuya Avenue in downtown Sanya and drive about 3 km to the parking lot halfway up the hill.
A taxi from downtown Sanya takes about 30 minutes; from Dadonghai or Sanya Bay, the fare is typically within a small budget. Alternatively, take bus 2 or 4 to Luhuitou Station, then switch to a three-wheeler to the entrance. Bus 22 also stops at Luhuitou Scenic Area, passing Luhuitou Square, Shiwei Station, Gangmen Village, and Luhuitou Park; from Sanya Bay, Dadonghai, or Yalong Bay, transfer to bus 22.
Opening Hours and Tickets
The area is generally open from 08:00 to 22:30, with last entry at 22:00 (some sources say 21:30). Hours may vary by season or holiday, so check official announcements before you go.
Admission is free, but advance reservation is usually required. Children under 1.2 meters and seniors over 70 with valid ID are exempt from reservation. The shuttle and other on-site facilities charge separate fees; check current prices on the partner channel.
What to See and Do
The 15-meter Luhuitou sculpture, based on a Li ethnic love legend, is the park's most famous landmark. The park is known as Hainan's only hilltop park, offering panoramic views of the city and bays, especially at night.
You can take the eco-shuttle directly to the 'Love at First Sight Luhuitou' gate, or walk up in about 20 minutes. The stairs number around 700; walking is manageable for those with reasonable fitness. A 1-2 hour visit is suggested.
For the best experience, arrive half an hour before sunset to watch the sunset and then the night view. The hilltop has an observation deck, a love post office where you can send postcards, and a wishing tree. Bring a light jacket as it can be windy and cooler on the hill.
Practical Tips
The address is 150 meters northeast of the intersection of Xiaodonghai Road and Luling Road. The area is compact and can be toured in about an hour.
At night, the city lights and the Phoenix Island light show create a memorable scene. The area is suitable for couples and photography enthusiasts. Be mindful of safety when descending at night.
